With few exceptions, most of us contribute in some ways to animal suffering. Whether it is the food we choose to eat, the clothes we choose to wear, or the products we choose to buy. If we choose to go to an animal circus, we promote animal suffering. If we go to a zoo, we promote animal suffering. If you buy an animal rather than adopt, you promote animal suffering.

The video should make you think about how you might be able to help alleviate animal suffering. Maybe your next meal, you could choose a vegetarian option. Maybe you could purchase non-leather shoes next time (go to www.mooshoes.com). Maybe the next time you decide it is time to give an animal a home, you will go to a rescue group or a shelter, and not contribute to the puppy mill horrors by buying from a pet store or the internet.

SUPPORT INTRO 389- HELP RETIRE ABUSED CIRCUS ELEPHANTS

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Contact your NYC Council member (can be found on the “Blogroll” to the right-  NYC Council Members), and ask them to SUPPORT INTRO 389.  Intro 389 would ban wild animal performances in New York City.  Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is currently on trial in Washington, DC for multiple violations of the Endangered Species Act.  Link to the video here to see for yourself why we need this bill passed.

If you are going to email the Council, you can cut and paste ALL of the Council Members emails here:

 marroyo@council.nyc.gov, avella@council.nyc.ny.us, baez@council.nyc.ny.us, brewer@council.nyc.ny.us, comrie@council.nyc.ny.us, ecrowley@council.nyc.gov, deblasio@council.nyc.ny.us, emdilan@council.nyc.ny.us, mathieu.eugene@council.nyc.gov, felder@council.nyc.gov, fidler@council.nyc.ny.us, foster@council.nyc.ny.us, garodnick@council.nyc.ny.us, gennaro@council.nyc.ny.us, vgentile@council.nyc.gov, agerson@council.nyc.gov, gioia@council.nyc.ny.us, gonzalez@council.nyc.ny.us, Ignizio@council.nyc.ny.us, rjackson@council.nyc.gov, ljames@council.nyc.gov, katz@council.nyc.ny.us, koppell@council.nyc.ny.us, lappin@council.nyc.ny.us, liu@council.nyc.gov, viverito@council.nyc.ny.us, martinez@council.nyc.ny.us, darlene.mealy@council.nyc.gov, rmendez@council.nyc.gov, nelson@council.nyc.ny.us, palma@council.nyc.ny.us, recchia@council.nyc.ny.us, rivera@council.nyc.ny.us, sanders@council.nyc.gov, seabrook@council.nyc.ny.us, sears@council.nyc.ny.us, vacca@council.nyc.ny.us, vann@council.nyc.ny.us, weprin@council.nyc.ny.us, twhite@council.nyc.gov, yassky@council.nyc.ny.us, barron@council.nyc.gov, barron@council.nyc.ny.us, dickens@council.nyc.gov, dickens@council.nyc.ny.us, oddo@council.nyc.gov, oddo@council.nyc.ny.us, quinn@council.nyc.gov, quinn@council.nyc.ny.us, reyna@council.nyc.gov, reyna@council.nyc.ny.us, stewart@council.nyc.gov, stewart@council.ny.us, vallone@council.nyc.gov, vallone@council.nyc.ny.us

Then please ask them to support Intro 389, and also Intro 658A, which would ban the abusive carriage horse industry in NYC once and for all.  Please contact me if you have any questions, or need more information.

CANDIDATE MITCHELL WILL NOT RESPOND TO US

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Ken Mitchell has declined to respond to any of your (our) requests. We have simply asked him what his stand is on Intro 658 (the NYC Carriage Horse Ban), and Intro 389 (the ban on wild animal performances in NYC). He apparently has nothing to say.

I have contacted the candidates who remain in the NYC Council race.

DEBI ROSE HAS SAID SHE IS IN FAVOR OF BANNING THE CARRIAGE HORSES. She has agreed to review Intro 389.

PAUL SARYIAN is reviewing the issues.

DONALD PAGANO is also reviewing the issues.

As more information comes in on how the candidates stand on these issues, I will post them. Until then, PLEASE PLAN TO VOTE ON FEB 24th. We want a City Councll Member who will take a stand, and vote with his or her conscience. Many NYC Council Members are too easily swayed or manipulated by the Speaker, the Mayor, or their own special interests. The fact that Mr. Mitchell will not even have someone on his staff return phone calls or emails should be an indication to you what kind of representative he would be.

Please continue to email Ken Mitchell and ask why he won’t state his positions on Intro 389 and 658.
