The Original Dolphin Project

The Dolphin Project was established on Earth Day 1970 by Richard O'Barry and Fred Neil and is dedicated to abolishing the billion-dollar dolphin slave trade.

Dolphins are free-ranging, highly intelligent, complex, and social marine mammals. It is their belief that neither entertainment, so-called education, research, nor dolphin-assisted-therapy can justify their capture, confinement, training, captive breeding, and commercial exploitation.

Circuses.com

For animals in circuses, there is no such thing as “positive reinforcement” -- only varying degrees of punishment and deprivation. Animals do not voluntarily ride bicycles, stand on their heads, or jump through rings of fire. They don’t perform these and other difficult tricks because they want to; they perform them because they’re afraid not to.

Intro389.org

The elephants, tigers and other wild animals commonly used in circuses perform not out of love for show business but because they are beaten into submission. Trainers use bull hooks, whips, electrical shock, and other devices to turn wild animals into unwilling daredevils and performers in the Cruelest Show on Earth.

During the winter off-season, animals, such as bears and elephants, are crammed into cages, stalls and even trucks. Elephants -- who walk up to 30 miles a day in nature -- spend 90% of their day chained and confined in small areas.

This legislation would prohibit the use of wild animals -- such as elephants, sea mammals, non-human primates, lions, tigers, and many other species of exotic animals -- in circuses and other performances. It currently awaits a hearing in the City Council Health Committee chaired by Council Member Joel Rivera (D-Bronx).

People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), with more than 2.0 million members and supporters, is the largest animal rights organization in the world.

PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. They also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds and other "pests," and the abuse of backyard dogs.

PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns.

Farm Sanctuary

When Farm Sanctuary started in 1986, it was a fledgling, all volunteer organization that was funded by sales of veggie hot dogs from a VW van. Today, Farm Sanctuary has grown to become the nation's leading farm animal protection organization, with hundreds of thousands of supporters. Farm Sanctuary remains solidly committed to our mission to end cruelty to farm animals and promote compassionate living through rescue, education and advocacy efforts.

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has historically adopted many policies that support inhumane factory farming practices. Farm Sanctuary is encouraging the AVMA to change their positions and adopt policies that are in the best interest of the animals. Download the PDF below for more information.
